Land of A Thousand Hills Coffee Co. teamed up with The Haven Project to build a unique social enterprise located in Lynn. The coffee shop is utilized as on the job training for imminently homeless young adults, with proceeds also going toward restoration efforts in Rwanda.
About the Haven Project:
“Our mission is to equip and empower homeless or imminently homeless young adults with the skills and support they need to be safe and self-supporting.” The Haven Project is the only organization north of Boston dedicated specifically to providing age appropriate services to a growing, vulnerable 17-24 year old homeless young adult population.
The Haven Project was founded in 2011 to address a gap in services to unaccompanied homeless young adults north of Boston. In January 2016, The Haven Project opened it’s social enterprise, Land of A Thousand Hills Café, as a site for it’s job-training program.
Annually, The Haven Project serves over 220 clients each year and continues to develop programs to meet the growing and complex needs of the north of Boston homeless young adult population.
100% of the profits from Land of a Thousand Hills Cafe goes directly to The Haven Project. When you buy from A Land of a Thousand Hills in Lynn, not only are you are receiving coffee that is 100% Arabica, fairly traded, and roasted fresh – but your excellent morning cup is offering hope to local homeless youth with each purchase."
About Land of A Thousand Hills:
"When the Haven Project approached Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee Company (LOTH) about creating a social enterprise, the proposal was warmly welcomed. LOTH entered a unique partnership with the Haven Project to create a specialty coffee shop in Lynn, MA which both contributes to the restoration of Rwanda and reinvests profit to the underserved homeless youth on the North Shore.
After the genocide in 1994, Rwanda made a commitment to national restoration. Upon visiting this country, Jonathan Golden, founder of LOTH, recognized a simple and tangible opportunity to make a difference in the reconciliation of the Rwandan people. This idea led Golden to start a coffee company that pays a fair wage to the farmers of Rwanda, helps them with their basic needs, and brings a quality product to coffee lovers."
